In the fall of 2018, the most memorable incident happened to my life. I was a fresh high school graduate, and I visited Dhaka to meet my friend without preparation. I had caught a departing train without any ticket and headed to Dhaka. And that could take me to jail.
That was the first week of fall. Usually, I was studying a bit at that time as an SAT applicant. On the other hand, I had a relationship with a girl who was a 10th grader. We were talking too much about various scientific matters and robotics projects through phone calls and texting. On that day at 8 PM, she told me to meet with her on her school cultural day to see her Robotics booth at the event. As I didn’t know about that event, I was surprised because that event’s schedule was in the morning. As a resident of Rajshahi, if I want to meet with her the following day, I need to reach the station before 10 PM to go through transport for heading to Dhaka.
I went to the Rail station and caught the last train to Dhaka without any ticket. After departing, one of the Ticket Examiner came to me and asked about my ticket for the journey. I told him that I don’t have any tickets because I just came here without any preparation. He told me it’s a crime, so he’ll hand me over to Rail Police. After my request, he told me to pay him some money without any receipt or ticket, so anyone on the train won’t ask me about the ticket. I have unofficially paid him one thousand Taka, and after that, he told me to go to the Power Car where only some food and some electric things the train carrying. After went there I felt tired and slept.
In the morning, after waking up, I found myself in Kamlapur Railway Station. I stood up and searched for the way to exit. After exiting from the train, someone from the station platform calls me who had a Waitaki on his hand. I felt a bit scared because I didn’t have any tickets. He asked for my ticket, and I said about the last night’s scenario, then he also told me about the law and aware me about the police. I was afraid of the jail and told him about the emergency journey. He was walking with me and telling me these. I have offered him some bribe, but he wasn’t listing about that. Suddenly, I had got an idea to fooling him by using the name of a ruling political student wing and told him that I’m here because of an emergency meeting. After some of those talks, he released me. I thought that I wouldn’t do such a thing again.
I think an incident happing in a lifetime is typical, but it was a horrible one. Facilities such as purchasing railway tickets on the train should be available anytime. Otherwise, in emergency cases, it would be a terrible thing.
